Founded in 1999, CCG is a leading Merger & Acquisitions advisor to private equity and to companies in the services industry that build and maintain basic utility infrastructure such as water, wastewater, telecom and energy networks. We also provide private equity capital to companies for growth, acquisitions and recapitalizations, often co-investing with institutional private equity.

We are focused on the infrastructure services industry, which is a subset within the greater Engineering & Construction (E&C) services sector. Companies in our focus typically design, build, maintain and perform specialty services for basic utility infrastructure in the electric, gas, water, wastewater, telecom and related markets.

 

Infrastructure services is a large, growing and highly fragmented industry driven by long-term factors including aging infrastructure, population growth, regulatory compliance, technology and security.

Robert serves as Managing Director and Principal at Commerce Capital Group, LLC. He leads the development of CCG’s strategic focus on advising and investing in infrastructure operating companies serving the end-markets of energy, water/wastewater, telecom, and other basic infrastructure sectors. His Wall Street career commenced with equity sales at Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. in 1982. From 1991 through 1998, he was a Managing Director at The Private Merchant Banking Company (PMB) where he was responsible for the successful takeover by proxy contest of the world-renowned Boca Raton Resort & Club. Through a successful tender offer financed by George Soros Realty, an affiliate of PMB, purchased a publicly traded mortgage partnership, an asset of which became the Ocean Club at Key Biscayne, a highly successful luxury condominium development in Key Biscayne, Florida. Until co-founding PMB, Mr. Hughes served as Vice President-Investments at Prudential-Bache Securities. There he was instrumental in completing numerous private placements of equity securities including initial capitalization for early stage operating companies, real estate and leveraged equipment equity syndications and blind-pool venture and leveraged buyout funds. He serves as Executive Chairman of t4 Spatial LLC. Among others, he has served on the boards of United States Infrastructure Corporation, Osmose Utility Services and, in the non-profit world, the United States Army War College Foundation. Mr. Hughes was educated at The New School for Social Research and the Washington Square College of Art and Science at New York University. Robert moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1973 where he continues to reside with his wife Susan.

Taylor started his investment banking career with CCG in 2001, helping establish the firm’s infrastructure industry focus and executing numerous buyside, sellside and corporate divestiture transactions. Taylor has advised companies ranging from small businesses with under $10 million of revenues to middle market leaders and transaction size ranging from under $10 million to over $1 billion. Within the infrastructure sector, Taylor has advised on transactions involving many industry leaders including SBA Communications, Dycom Industries, Quanta Services, Parsons Corporation, Asplundh and many of the sectors’ leading private equity investment firms. He was instrumental in the co-founding and sale of United States Infrastructure Corporation and is an active board observer and principal in the firm’s private equity investments. Outside of CCG, Taylor has a real estate development and investment business and resides in Santa Barbara with his wife and two children. Taylor has a degree in business economics with an emphasis in accounting from the University of California, Santa Barbara where for the past 20 years he has partnered with UCSB to lead CCG’s student internship and mentorship program focused on preparing, training and successfully placing students for careers in corporate finance, investment banking and private equity.
